Wool and the Gang has partnered with iconic University Central Saint Martins’ pool of creative talent to launch its new collection.
BA Textile students have been commissioned by Wool and The Gang to submit jewellery design proposals based on the brand’s successful jewellery line Sansa & Khaleesi. Out of thirty submissions WATG’s creative directors, Jade Harwood and Aurelie Popper, have selected nine designs which will be sold on www.woolandthegang.com giving young designers their first online commercial experience.
“We’ve been struck by the designers’ perfection and the inventive use of colour and materials – we wish we could showcase them all. Our own story started from this very degree course at Central Saint Martins so it felt natural to give back to the community that keeps nurturing cutting edge design. Giving a voice to young designers is what our field really needs.!” Aurelie Popper, Creative Director and Co-founder of WATG.
The collection is available both as ready made jewellery and easy-to-follow Knit Kits. The students used WATG yarn made from fabric roll off-cuts from fashion factories in Turkey. The designers’ inspiration ranges from the corals of British coasts to Egyptian goddesses, scoobiedoos and the colourful pipes of the museum of Pompidou in Paris.
“We loved the freedom of experimenting with a material we’ve never used before and we adore The Gang. It’s so good to know that my designs are going to be seen out there. You might see someone on the tube wearing it. How exciting is that? I’d feel really privileged. It massages your ego and just feels so nice.” Hannah Farley, Central Saint Martins, Textile student.
