While Iceland has mainly made headlines this year due to the eruption of its rather unpronounceable Eyjafjallajokull volcano, the tiny island nation is host to another noteworthy event this summer: the Loops 2010 yarncraft festival that opened up on June 17th.

We especially love Sarah Applebaum’s “Meta Blanket,” a piece assembled from old crocheted blankets and other unfinished works. The colors are great and it’s especially interesting how she makes something coherent out of such a ragtag variety of projects.

Another one of our favorites is “Sealpelt” by Vík Prjónsdóttir -two super cozy looking blankets that would certainly keep you warm throughout the chilly winters. The native collective, composed of five Icelandic designers and a knitting factory, emphasizes all things local and draws inspiration from mythical folklore and stories.

PROTECT ME by Aurelie Mathigot
This weekend at MAC/VAL, Aurelie Mathigot is exhibiting her new installation of conceptual knitting. We love how she integrates our WATG wool to create new dimensions and structures of knitting. Check it out.

Sexy knitting in the french ELLE

The lastest issue of French ELLE shows how sexy knitting can be and we are very happy to be part of it! Huge needles and thick yarn; WATG is proud!

Join the Thompson Street gang!

We've only been open two months and already we've built up a strong community of Wool And The Gang regulars at our Thompson Street location. Here are just some of the people who've caught the knitting bug with us.
Get in on the action yourself and drop into one of our 'knitting surgeries' on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 5 - 7pm, where the Studio/Shop team will be happy to help you get started with one of our kits, trade tips or even just give you someone to chat to while you knit -- they look forward to meeting you!

Knit it like Cobain !

As Nadège told you the Tween Spirit "screwed-up" sweater is a must-have for children this winter and will be soon available for adults. The technique we use to design holes in the sweater is called "ladder stitch". It's one of the most enjoyable/scariest one in the world! You can really feel like you are destroying everything you've created/knitted and that's quite crazy! Don't be too precious with your knit! Have a look at our tutorial video, it's so simple and strongly recommended by our style team!
